AskMarc is a sole-trader ICT support service operating in the Macleay Valley, NSW. Depending on the service you use, we may collect different types of personal information. This policy explains what we collect, how we store it, and what your rights are — in plain English. It is made under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What we collect
The information we collect depends on how you engage with us.
Contact form (website enquiries)
When you submit the contact form on askmarc.com.au, we receive your name, phone number, a brief description of what you need help with, your service preferences, and your preferred callback time.
Home technology audit
When you book an in-home audit, we collect your home address, details of the devices in your household (makes, models, operating systems), your home network configuration, and notes about your technology setup. We may take photos of your equipment with your permission.
Digital continuity (estate) planning
This service involves recording your digital life so it can be managed or wound down according to your wishes. The information we collect may include:
- An inventory of your online accounts (email, social media, banking, subscriptions, etc.)
- Account usernames — but not passwords (see note below)
- Names and contact details of people you nominate to act on your behalf (e.g. a trusted person or executor)
- Your instructions for how each account should be handled
A note on passwords: we strongly recommend you do not share your passwords with us directly. Instead, we can help you set up a password manager and nominate a trusted contact who can access it. If you do provide credentials, they are treated as strictly confidential and stored separately from your other records.
Digital continuity planning may also involve information about people other than you — for example, the details of a nominated executor or next of kin. We collect and handle that information only for the purpose of carrying out your instructions.
Digital media conversion
When you bring us physical media to convert (photos, slides, film, video cassettes, CDs, etc.), we handle the content purely to produce the digital copy you have requested. We do not retain copies of your converted media after we have delivered the finished files to you. We record your name, contact details, and a description of the items submitted for conversion.
We do not use analytics tools, advertising cookies, or tracking pixels on our website.
2. Why we collect it
We collect personal information only for the purpose of delivering the service you have requested. We will not use your information for marketing, pass it to third parties, or contact you about anything unrelated to your request.
3. How we store it
Contact form submissions and service records are stored in Google Firebase Firestore, hosted on Google Cloud in the australia-southeast1 region (Sydney). Google applies encryption at rest and in transit. Your data does not leave Australia.
Digital continuity planning records are stored with additional access controls. Physical media submitted for conversion is kept securely at our premises and returned to you with your finished files.
We do not share your personal information with any third party.
4. How long we keep it
General enquiry and service records are kept for up to two years from the date of your last contact. Digital continuity planning records are kept for as long as you remain a client, and deleted within 90 days of your written request to close your file. Converted media content is deleted from our systems within 30 days of delivery. If your enquiry did not lead to any work, we will typically delete it sooner.
5. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or out of date
- Ask us to delete your information (where no legal obligation requires us to keep it)
To make any of these requests, send an email to hello@askmarc.com.au. We will respond within 30 days.
